LAURA’S TIPS FOR NETWORKING ON NEW YEARS EVE

Chicago, Illinois — Countdown to 2023 with Speaker, Emcee and Author Laura Schwartz as she shares her Top Tips for Networking on New Years Eve 2023.

Whether you are in school, a young professional or an experienced industry veteran, it is always necessary to make this exciting New Years holiday an opportunity to grow and build your personal brand — all while having lots of fun! Here are 5 tips for your NYE Celebration!

TIP #1: Ask yourself periodically, “Is this cocktail talk or my cocktail talking?”

Especially in the time leading up to midnight, it’s easy to go overboard with the drinks as the energy builds around you. This is, however, the best time to get in some good conversation before the celebration really begins! As such, remember to pace yourself (alternating between drinks and water is always a good way to go) as you catch up with old contacts and make new ones! It’ll save yourself some embarrassment, both personally and professionally, in the long run.

TIP #2: Bring your TapTag or business card!

No matter how “social” your New Years Eve event might be, it’s always a good idea to bring a small stack of business cards along or better yet my favorite business card hack, the TapTag. After all, guests tend to bring their friends and co-workers along for the ride. You never know who you might meet! Many are looking to expand their own networks to start the new year strong, and with your name and number at the top of their pile, you can have a swell start as well.

TIP #3: Step outside your comfort zone!

Whether with your friends or a date, make sure to circulate and meet others outside your immediate circles! You never know when the next conversation will be the one that will change your life. Introducing different personalities to your group will make the festivities even more eventful, and your friends will surely appreciate having the chance to expand their social horizons as well.

TIP #4: Optional v. Opportunity

What you do outside the office is sometimes more important that what you do at your desk or on a zoom call. There are so many invites, evites, paperless posts…..we are tempted to say no to the “optional” happy hours, secret Santa exchange and random holiday parties – but these are not optional – they’re opportunities – to climb your ladder, land the promotion, gather information and get to know those around you better. So even when you’re burnt out from the holiday rush and don’t feel like another party, tell yourself to go for 20 minutes. Then if you leave after 20, you haven’t given up too much of your life – OR that 20 minutes could turn into 2 hours and change your life!

TIP #5: Think back on 2022!

Last but certainly not least, enjoy closing out and looking forward to the adventures that await in 2023! Social media is great for digging up your best moments for the year, also inspiring you to up the ante and achieve even greater things during the next 12 months. Visualize your success, and it is sure to come!

Start 2023 on a great note with new connections and memories worth talking about!
