Eat, Drink and Succeed in Japan
Eat, Drink & Succeed Around the World
Where culture, conversation, and connection
turn travel into opportunity
Japan
Chicago, IL — Internationally renowned speaker and author of Eat, Drink & Succeed, Laura Schwartz brings her signature approach to connection and leadership to a global series created for modern travelers, leaders, and cultural connectors.
Eat, Drink & Succeed Around the World equips readers with the cultural insights, destinations, and conversational confidence needed to show up prepared—whether crossing borders for business, diplomacy, or discovery. From where to gather and what to order, to how to engage with intention and presence, each article reveals how everyday moments can become powerful opportunities for connection.
Because success doesn’t happen in boardrooms alone.
It happens over shared meals, thoughtful conversations, and the courage to connect—anywhere in the world.
Join me over the coming months as we Eat, Drink and Succeed as we journey across Japan — from the dynamic energy of Tokyo to the historic roots of old Edo in Kyoto, the vibrant working heart of Osaka, and the quiet, restorative pace of Hakone. Each destination offers its own approach to networking, where culture, conversation, and connection transform travel into opportunity.
Pull up a chair.
The conversation in Japan is just beginning.
Getting Started: Networking in Japan Is as Easy as 1-2-3
1. The Power of Timing
Arriving early is a sign of respect in Japan—whether for a meeting or a meal. Punctuality honors your host, your guest, and the establishment itself.
2. The Power of a Greeting
A bow is traditional. In international settings, a slight bow followed by a handshake is common. In formal situations, always follow body language cues.
Respect first. Always.
3. The Power of a Business Card
Present and receive business cards (meishi) with both hands. Read the card before setting it down respectfully. Never rush or pocket it immediately.
Japan sets the standard for how culture and connection drive results. Eat, Drink & Succeed Around the World begins here — where presence, respect, and shared experience turn conversation into opportunity.
